The exquisite outer design portrays the magnificent Umlibo artwork – a print of the 5m x 2m hand-embroidered tapestry that includes recycled materials such as the fish made from cooldrink tins and sea creatures made from chip-packet hand-rolled beads.
Created in 2023 by a group of mostly female artists from the Keiskamma Art Project in the small coastal town of Hamburg in the Eastern Cape, Umlibo was commissioned by WWF South Africa. Umlibo conveys local climate impacts and sustainable livelihoods in the face of how climate change is impacting coastal communities such as those who live in Hamburg. It is rich with stories, colours and incredible details that will keep you gazing at it for hours on end.
Our supplier, Virobag, manufactures reusable and recycled bags all of which are made from plastic bottles. This recycled beach tote is insulated and has a waterproof silver foil lining.
